Mayhew 5/64" Pilot Punch
The Mayhew 5/64" pilot punch is a hand-held roll-pin punch designed for metalwork. Its 1/4" round shank and knurled grip give positive control when driving or removing small pins. The 5/64" ball tip matches standard roll-pin diameters in automotive and machinery maintenance.
Replaces worn or undersized pin punches
A blunt or bent tip mushrooms the pin head and damages the surrounding hole. Swapping to a fresh 5/64" punch restores clean alignment and prevents the pin from walking during installation. The upgrade is worth it whenever the old tool no longer centres reliably on the pin.
Handles 5/64" roll pins in steel and alloy
The HAWA steel body and black-oxide finish resist wear through repeated strikes on ferrous and non-ferrous parts. Tapered over 1-1/2" for gradual entry, it drives pins flush without binding. It is not suited for larger-diameter pins, heavy drift work or applications requiring a striking cap.

Questions about this item
What shank diameter fits the 1/4 in collet on my punch holder?
The round shank measures 1/4 in diameter, matching standard holders.
How do I align the 5/64 in ball tip without bending the 1 1/2 in taper?
Start the punch square to the pin centre, tap lightly to seat the ball tip, then drive straight through — angling the handle bends the taper.
When does the black oxide finish on the HAWA steel need refreshing?
Re-apply a light oil coat when the oxide turns grey; the hardened tip resists mushrooming far longer than plain carbon punches.
