Adds a PCIe x1 slot to Raspberry Pi 5 for network cards and other expansion boards
The MCDODO P02 board adds a PCIe x1 slot to a Raspberry Pi 5 using the native PCIe FPC connector. It targets makers who need a single add-in card such as a network interface without redesigning their carrier board.
Builders who previously relied on USB or GPIO bit-banged Ethernet can now install a native PCIe network card. The upgrade is worth it when the project demands lower latency or higher throughput than the USB bus can deliver.
The open-ended slot accepts x1, x2, x4, x8 or x16 cards while negotiating a x1 link at either Gen2 or Gen3 speeds. Under continuous traffic the connection remains stable because the FPC cable and mounting screws keep the signal path mechanically secure.

The open slot design structurally accepts x1, x2, x4, x8 and x16 cards, so a PCIe x1 network card fits without a closed-end bracket.
Connect the FPC cable to the Pi 5 PCIe connector, secure the board with the screw pack and screwdriver, then enable the PCIe interface in the Pi 5 boot configuration.
Replace the FPC cable if the flex ribbon shows creases or broken traces, and replace screws if threads strip during repeated mounting.
