Questions about this item

Will the transceiver itself need replacement, or is it only the fibre patch cord that wears out?

The transceiver is a sealed SFP+ module with no user-serviceable parts; only the external LC patch cord is replaced when damaged or dirty.

Does the 10 Gbps line rate hold steady over long cable runs, or does distance become the first bottleneck?

The module is rated for 10 GBase-LR operation up to 10 km on single-mode fibre, so distance is the practical limit before signal margin drops.
