Dual-Port 40GbE QSFP Adapter

The Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro MCX314A-BCCT is a dual-port 40GbE network card that uses QSFP cages for high-speed Ethernet links. It targets data-centre operators and HPC clusters that need low-latency 40GbE connectivity over twinax or optical cables. The card is supplied new and was first listed by the manufacturer in 2022.

Suits 40GbE QSFP deployments.

This adapter fits racks that run 40GbE over QSFP direct-attach or transceiver links and want the ConnectX-3 Pro feature set. It does not suit teams needing single-port density, different connector types, or other Ethernet speeds.

Dual 40GbE QSFP ports decide fit

The card presents two 40GbE QSFP ports, so the purchasing decision rests on whether the infrastructure uses that exact port count and interface. If the fabric requires a different port count or media type, another adapter must be selected.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 40 GbE dual-port QSFP version or a different capacity?

The 40 GbE dual-port QSFP model gives you two 40 Gbps ports in one slot; choose it when your switch and cabling already support QSFP and you need that total throughput.

What does the 40 GbE rating deliver inside an actual server?

Each port can move up to 40 Gbps of Ethernet traffic, so the card provides two independent 40 Gbps lanes for storage, clustering or high-speed uplink duty.

How does the QSFP interface limit real-world speed?

The QSFP cages accept 40 GbE transceivers or direct-attach cables, capping each port at the 40 Gbps line rate the card is built for.
