Single-port 10Gbps PCIe 3.0 server adapter with SFP+ fibre connectivity and 1µs MPI latency
The Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro MCX311A-XCCT is a single-port 10Gbps network card built for server workloads. It installs in a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot and connects via an SFP+ transceiver for optical fibre. The adapter targets environments that need low-latency RDMA transport over existing Ethernet infrastructure. It is not suited for desktop builds lacking an x8 slot or SFP+ cabling.
The card draws power solely from the PCI Express bus with no auxiliary connector required. Passive cooling relies on chassis airflow; no onboard fan is present so acoustic output is zero. Power consumption scales with link speed up to 56GbE capability but typical 10GbE operation stays within standard slot limits. Operators must ensure the server enclosure provides adequate flow across the heatsink.
Mellanox supplies drivers that enable CPU offload of transport operations and application offload engines in hardware. Sockets acceleration libraries further reduce latency for MPI traffic, quoted at one microsecond ping latency. Precision clock synchronisation protocols are supported in firmware. No management utilities or diagnostic suites are included in the package.

Align the x8 edge connector with a compatible PCIe 3.0 slot, press firmly until the retention bracket clicks, then secure the bracket screw; the step often missed is attaching an SFP+ transceiver before cabling.
The card itself has no moving parts; only the SFP+ optical modules may need replacement if a link degrades or a different fiber type is required.
The PCI Express 3.0 x8 interface caps theoretical throughput at roughly 56 Gbps, so the 10 Gbps Ethernet port will saturate well before the host bus becomes a bottleneck.
