Product Identity
The Mercury MR52-S3B is a 3 Series Dual Reader Interface Module built for handheld PC and PDA accessories. It provides two reader ports that accept OSDP, Clock/Data, Data–1/Data–0, RS-485 or F/2F formats alongside Mercury and HID keypad protocols. Integrators use it to add secure credential entry to mobile or fixed access-control systems.
Sustained Operation
The module draws up to 550 mA from a 12-24 VDC supply and can deliver regulated 12 VDC at 300 mA to each connected reader continuously. Host communication runs over a two-wire RS-485 bus rated for 4,000 feet on shielded twisted pair such as Belden 9841. Six Form-C relays rated at 5 A (NO) and 3 A (NC) at 30 VDC resistive switch loads without degradation during extended duty cycles.
Thermals and Power
Operating from 12-24 VDC with a ten percent tolerance keeps the unit within its specified electrical envelope under normal load. The pass-through or regulated reader power options let the installer balance cable voltage drop against on-board dissipation. Eight general-purpose inputs plus dedicated tamper and power-monitor circuits provide status feedback without adding active cooling requirements.

Questions about this item
How much current does the MR52-S3B draw when it runs continuously at 12 VDC?
The module draws a maximum of 550 mA at 12-24 VDC, so at 12 VDC the peak current is 550 mA.
Which host wiring and reader cables must I already have to install this interface module?
You need RS-485 2-wire twisted-pair shielded cable such as Belden 9841 for the host link and separate reader cables for the two reader ports.
Will the six Form-C relays on this module switch my existing 30 VDC lock circuits rated at 5 A?
Yes, the normally open contacts are rated 5 A at 30 VDC resistive and the normally closed contacts 3 A at 30 VDC resistive.
