What the Metapen A8 does and who it suits

The Metapen A8 is a USB-C rechargeable stylus built for Apple iPad models released from 2018 through 2026, including Pro 12.9 and 13-inch M4, Air 3 through M3, and Mini 5 and 6. It delivers 0.1 mm pixel precision with no perceptible delay, tilt sensitivity for line variation, and palm rejection so you can rest your hand on the screen. The stylus does not support pressure sensitivity, so artists who need variable opacity tied to force should look elsewhere.

Charging speed, battery life and thermal behaviour

A full charge takes 30 minutes over USB-C and yields up to 10 hours of active use; a one-minute top-up provides roughly 50 minutes of work and a four-minute charge gives about two hours. An LED indicator shows the remaining battery level and the pen powers down automatically after five minutes of inactivity to conserve energy. No heat or noise is produced during normal operation.

Build integration: magnetic attachment

The stylus attaches magnetically to compatible iPad edges for storage and transport, removing the need for a separate clip or case. Each unit ships with three polymer tips — one installed and two spares — rated for a 20 km wear test and 3,000 impact cycles, roughly twice the durability of the original Apple Pencil tips. The slim 6.53 x 0.35 x 0.35 in white body fits comfortably in a hand without adding bulk to a bag.

Questions about this item

How do I pair the Metapen A8 ME-APP152 with my iPad and what step do people miss?

Attach the stylus magnetically to the side of a compatible iPad; the connection is automatic. The step users miss is ensuring Bluetooth is enabled on the iPad before attaching the pen.

When will I need to replace the tip on the Metapen A8 and how many spares are included?

Each tip is rated for 20 km of use and survives 3000 impacts. The box includes one installed tip plus two extra replaceable tips, giving three tips total before you must buy more.

What is the first limit I hit during a long drawing session with the Metapen A8?

Battery life caps continuous use at 10 hours. A 30-minute USB-C charge restores full capacity, while a 1-minute charge adds 50 minutes and a 4-minute charge adds 2 hours.
