Universal Retractable Antenna

The Metra 44-UL09 is a universal retractable antenna designed for car stereo systems. It provides AM/FM reception in a compact, low-profile format. The unit suits drivers who want a clean roof line without a fixed mast. It is not for vehicles that require a powered amplified antenna or a factory-specific connector.

Installation and Fit

The antenna mounts on the vehicle exterior using the included hardware. Its retractable mast extends to 16.00 inches and collapses to a height of 2.00 inches. The base footprint measures 3.75 inches in width. Installation difficulty varies by roof curvature and cable routing; some owners report clearance issues with sunroofs or roof racks.

Reception and Limits

The 16.00-inch extended length delivers standard broadcast reception for daily driving. At 0.35 lbs the assembly adds minimal mass to the roof. In fringe signal areas or heavy urban multipath environments the passive design may lack the gain of a powered alternative. The fixed mast length cannot be adjusted for specific frequency tuning.
