RAID controller with eight internal SAS/SATA ports, 2 GB DDR4 cache and integrated flash backup delivering up to 1.37 million IOPS
The Microsemi SmartRAID 3100 series card provides eight internal SAS and SATA connections through a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot. It includes 2 GB of DDR4 cache memory with integrated flash backup for data protection. The low-profile form factor fits standard server chassis.
This controller suits administrators building RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 50, 60 or ADM arrays inside a server using SFF-8643 cabling. It does not serve systems lacking a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, deployments requiring external drive enclosures or configurations needing more than eight internal ports.
The card communicates with the host over an eight-lane PCI Express 3.0 connection, which determines the maximum throughput available to the eight 12 Gb/s SAS ports. Verify that the target server provides a compatible x8 slot before purchase.

Install the low-profile bracket into a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, connect the two SFF-8643 cables to the 8 internal SAS/SATA ports, then enable the integrated flash-backed cache in the BIOS or RAID utility before creating arrays.
The integrated flash-backed cache uses a super-capacitor that powers the 2 GB DDR4 during power loss; it is sealed and not user-replaceable, so plan for controller replacement when the capacitor reaches end-of-life.
The PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface caps sustained throughput, so workloads pushing toward the quoted 1.37 million IOPS will hit the bus bandwidth ceiling before the 12 Gb/s SAS ports or cache saturate.
