Microsemi 1100-4i 12Gb/s SAS HBA

The Microsemi 2293400-R is a 12Gb/s SAS host bus adapter that connects up to four SAS or SATA drives through a single SFF-8643 mini-SAS HD internal connector. It installs in a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot and includes both full-height and low-profile brackets for flexible chassis fit. The card operates without embedded hardware RAID, presenting drives directly to the operating system for software-defined storage configurations.

Suits direct-attached storage builders.

This adapter suits administrators who want the operating system or a hypervisor to manage storage redundancy and performance. It supports Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu Linux and VMware ESXi, making it a fit for heterogeneous server farms. Buyers who require on-board RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 acceleration should look at a controller with an embedded RAID processor instead.

Verify PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and SFF-8643 cabling

Before ordering, confirm the host system has an available PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot and sufficient physical clearance for a card measuring 2.54 by 6.60 inches. Ensure the backplane or drive cages use SFF-8643 mini-SAS HD connectors, or source compatible breakout cables for the four internal ports. The board is RoHS compliant and rated for standard server operating environments.

Questions about this item

What PCI Express slot generation and lane count does the 1100-4i need?

The controller requires a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot for full 12Gb/s operation.

Can the 1100-4i connect to my existing 6Gb/s SAS drives?

Yes, the 12Gb/s SAS ports are backward compatible with 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s SAS or SATA drives.

How do I confirm the 1100-4i is running at 12Gb/s after installation?

Check the adapter BIOS or OS driver utility; it will report a negotiated link speed of 12Gb/s for each attached drive.
