Surface Laptop 5 13.5" Intel Core i7-1265U

The Surface Laptop 5 pairs a 13.5-inch IPS touchscreen at 2256 x 1504 with an Intel Core i7-1265U processor, 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 256GB PCIe SSD. It runs Windows 11 Home and weighs in as a compact ultraportable for professionals and students who value a premium 3:2 display and all-day mobility.

Setup experience and common pitfalls

Windows 11 Home is pre-installed so the machine reaches the desktop within minutes of first boot. Memory is soldered and the single SSD slot is occupied, so storage upgrades require cloning the drive before swapping it. The 10-core processor handles typical workloads without fan noise, but the integrated Iris Xe graphics share system RAM, reducing the amount available for heavy multitasking.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous load the deca-core CPU maintains its 1.7GHz base speed while the thermal solution keeps surface temperatures comfortable for lap use. Battery life reaches up to 13 hours on light tasks, though sustained GPU compute or high screen brightness will reduce that figure. The 16GB DDR5 ceiling and 32GB maximum supported memory mean memory-intensive projects may hit capacity limits before the processor does.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-1265U is running at its 1.7GHz base speed after setup?

Open Task Manager and select the Performance tab; the CPU pane will show the current clock speed matching the 1.7GHz base frequency of the i7-1265U processor.

What accessories are included in the box and what must I purchase separately?

The box contains the Surface Laptop 5 unit and its power adapter; items such as a Surface Pen, Surface Dock, or external USB-C hub are sold separately.

Which configuration should I choose if I need more than the 16GB DDR5 memory and 256GB PCIe SSD supplied?

This model ships with 16GB DDR5 and a 256GB PCIe SSD, supports up to 32GB maximum memory, and has no user-accessible storage slot, so select a higher-capacity SKU at purchase if you need more space.
