Portable 12.3-inch Windows tablet

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 combines a 12.3-inch 2736 x 1824 IPS touchscreen with an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor at 2.6 GHz, 4 GB of memory and 128 GB of built-in storage. It runs Windows 10 Pro and weighs 1.73 pounds in a magnesium chassis measuring 0.33 inches thin. This device suits mobile professionals who need full desktop applications in a detachable form factor.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 7th-generation Core i5-7300U and integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handle typical office multitasking and web browsing without thermal throttling during extended sessions. Battery life is rated at more than five hours under mixed use, so plan for a charger on longer workdays. The fanless design keeps operation silent but limits peak performance duration under continuous heavy compute loads.

Setup checks before ordering

Verify that your essential peripherals connect via the single USB port, Bluetooth 4.1 or the Mini DisplayPort adapter (not included), as there is no HDMI output. The Surface Pro Type Cover and updated Surface Pen are sold separately and are required for laptop-style typing and 4096-level pressure-sensitive inking. Ensure your workflow accommodates the fixed 4 GB memory and non-upgradable 128 GB storage.

Questions about this item

Does the Core i5-7300U processor run hot or loud during all-day use?

The 2.6 GHz dual-core chip is passively cooled inside a 0.33-inch magnesium chassis, so there is no fan noise and surface temperatures stay low under typical workloads.

What accessories are required to use this tablet as a laptop?

A Surface Pro Type Cover for keyboard and trackpad input is sold separately; the built-in kickstand provides the hinge mechanism.

Will my older USB-A peripherals work with the single USB port?

The tablet includes one full-size USB 3.0 Type-A port, so existing mice, drives and other USB-A devices connect directly without adapters.
