24-core server licence

Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Standard EP2-25205 is a 64-bit operating system licensed for 24 processor cores. It ships as an OEM DVD package intended for organisations that run on-premise or hybrid workloads and need the Standard edition feature set. The licence covers a single physical server with up to 24 cores.

Passive software thermals

As a software product it generates no heat, draws no power and produces no acoustic noise. Thermal and power characteristics depend entirely on the host hardware chosen by the builder. No cooling or power-supply allowance is required for the licence itself.

OEM DVD media included

The box contains a physical DVD and the 24-core licence key. No additional management tools, client access licences or cloud credits are bundled. Organisations needing virtualisation rights beyond the two OSEs allowed by Standard, or requiring Datacenter features, must acquire separate licences.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Windows Server 2025 Standard OEM DVD on a 24-core host?

Boot from the DVD, follow the guided setup, and when prompted enter the 24-core product key; the step most people miss is selecting the correct Standard edition instead of Datacenter during the image choice screen.

What ongoing maintenance will the 24-core Windows Server 2025 Standard license require?

Apply monthly cumulative updates through Windows Update and renew the OEM licence only if the motherboard is replaced; the 24-core entitlement itself does not expire.

What limit appears first when the 24-core Windows Server 2025 Standard runs sustained workloads?

The 24-core licence cap is the first hard limit; once all 24 cores are allocated to VMs or processes, additional compute requires another licence pack.
