Product identification

This MIDWEST FASTENER CORP 31803 is a coarse-thread appliance bolt measuring 3/8"-16 by 2-1/2 inches. It is sold new as a heavy-duty hardware component for structural fastening tasks.

Upgrade context

The item replaces worn or undersized fasteners in appliances and equipment where a 3/8"-16 coarse thread is specified. The jump is worth it when the existing hardware has stripped, corroded or no longer provides adequate clamping force.

Suitability

This bolt suits maintenance technicians and DIYers repairing appliances, machinery or automotive assemblies that call for this exact thread and length. Buyers needing fine-thread, metric or different-length fasteners should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What diameter and thread pitch does the 3/8"-16 bolt need to match for a secure fit?

The bolt has a 3/8 inch diameter with 16 coarse threads per inch, so the mating hole or nut must share that exact specification.

How do you install the 31803 fastener without stripping the coarse threads?

Start the bolt by hand to align the 16 threads per inch, then tighten with a wrench; forcing it with a power tool often cross-threads the coarse pitch.

When should the 3/8"-16 hardware be replaced due to chemical exposure or wear?

Replace the fastener if the threads show corrosion, deformation, or if the Proposition 65 listed chemical exposure has degraded the metal integrity.
