What this retaining ring kit does

An external retaining ring secures components on a shaft or locks a shaft into a housing. This pack supplies five steel rings sized for a 1-3/8 in shaft diameter. It is intended for maintenance, repair or assembly tasks that need a removable shoulder on round stock.

How it fits into a build

The rings install into a machined groove on the outside of the shaft using snap-ring pliers. No threading, welding or adhesive is required, so adjacent parts stay free to rotate or slide until the ring is seated. The steel construction resists deformation during repeated removal and reinstallation.

Behaviour under sustained load

Steel retains its spring tension over long periods, keeping the retained part located even when vibration or axial force is constant. The rings are not designed for high-speed rotation where centrifugal expansion could unseat them, nor for corrosion-heavy environments without additional coating.
