Industrial E-Clip Fastener

The MIDWEST FASTENER CORP 36754 is an External-E type retaining ring made from 18-8 stainless steel. It serves mechanics and maintenance personnel who need a reusable spring fastener to secure components on a shaft or in a housing groove.

Spring Steel Construction

The 18-8 stainless steel provides corrosion resistance and the elastic deformation required for installation and removal. The plain finish leaves the surface uncoated, so the clip relies on material hardness to maintain its grip inside the groove during operation.

Groove Dependent Fit

Function depends entirely on the presence of a correctly machined groove or land on the mating part. Without that feature the clip cannot generate the interference fit needed to stay in place, limiting use to shafts or bores already prepared for external retaining rings.

Questions about this item

What standard does the E-clip follow for groove fit?

It is sized to provide an interference fit onto a groove or land, requiring elastic deformation for installation or removal.

What are the physical dimensions needed for this E-clip to seat correctly?

The clip is made from 18-8 stainless steel with a plain finish, designed to snap into a matching groove on a shaft.

How is this E-clip installed, and what common error should be avoided?

Use snap-ring pliers to expand the clip, slide it into the groove, and release; forcing it without tools can bend the clip and ruin the interference fit.
