A 5/32-inch diameter steel cotter pin with zinc-plated finish for securing shafts and clevis pins
This cotter pin is a simple R-shaped wire fastener designed to lock round shafts such as axles and clevis pins in place. It is intended for mechanics, farmers and DIYers who need a reliable, low-cost way to prevent a pin from sliding out under vibration or load. The steel construction with a zinc-plated finish resists corrosion in outdoor and automotive environments. Supplied new under part number 50274.
The zinc plating adds a sacrificial layer that slows rust on the steel wire, extending service life in wet or salty conditions. The hardened spring wire gives the clip its characteristic tension so it snaps securely over the pin end without tools. No additional hardware, lubricant or installation instructions are included in the package. The wire form itself is the only component provided.
The critical specification is the 5/32 inch nominal diameter, which must match the hole in the clevis pin or axle you are securing. If your shaft uses a different hole size this clip will not fit and cannot be adapted. Buyers who need a different diameter or a reusable quick-release pin should look for a matching fastener instead.

The zinc plating provides corrosion resistance for the steel pins; in harsh outdoor environments the coating can wear over time, so inspect periodically and replace any pin showing rust or coating loss.
The spring tension of the hardened wire holds the pin in place; under sustained vibration the clip can lose its grip or the wire can fatigue, requiring replacement to maintain a secure fit.
The pins are passive steel fasteners with no moving parts of their own; they produce no heat or audible noise during continuous operation on a shaft.
