Fastener for single-sided joints

The MIDWEST FASTENER 53959 blind rivet joins materials when only one face of the assembly is reachable. A mandrel pulls through the tubular body to expand the blind end before snapping off, leaving a secure dome-head fastening. The 18-8 stainless construction resists corrosion in automotive and general hardware applications. Installers drill a hole, insert the rivet, and set it with a standard rivet tool.

Behaviour under repeated installation

Each rivet is a single-use component; the mandrel fractures at a designed break point during setting so the joint cannot be re-tightened. The dome head distributes clamp load across the surface, reducing pull-through on thin sheet metal or plastic. Because the mandrel is consumed, sustained assembly work requires a fresh rivet for every hole, and the tool must be reloaded each cycle.

Upgrade path and fitment limits

This 5/32 in diameter by 1/4 in length rivet replaces smaller pop rivets when grip range or shear strength must increase, provided the hole size and material thickness match the larger shank. It does not suit joints needing disassembly, countersunk heads, or sealed ends. Builders needing structural blind bolts or multi-grip fasteners should select a different product class.
