Steel oval-head tubular rivets with a tip hole that lowers the setting force required for fastening
The MIDWEST FASTENER 61864 is a steel tubular rivet with an oval head. Its hollow tip rolls outward during setting, lowering the force required to form a permanent joint. The fastener suits thin metal panels, brackets and similar fabrication tasks.
Compared with solid rivets of the same diameter, the tubular design needs less setting pressure, which protects delicate workpieces and allows hand tools to be used. The upgrade is worthwhile when access is restricted or when the assembly cannot tolerate heavy impact.
The rivet seats in a standard 1/8 inch clearance hole and clamps material up to 1/4 inch thick. No specialised pneumatic equipment is required, freeeding bench space for other operations. Buyers needing longer grip lengths or larger diameters will need a different fastener.

Drill a 1/8 in clearance hole so the tubular shank passes through both workpieces before the tip is flared.
Use a tubular-rivet setter or a flare-ended punch; a solid-rivet bucking bar will crush the hole instead of rolling it outward.
Replace it if the flared head cracks, the shank loosens in the hole, or corrosion appears on the steel after service.
