Coupling Nut 1/2"-20

This coupling nut connects two threaded rods end to end using a 1/2"-20 thread on each side. It is made from Grade 2 steel with a zinc plated finish for corrosion resistance. The fastener suits repair, fabrication and maintenance tasks where rod extension is required.

Thread specification 1/2"-20

The single specification that determines fit is the 1/2"-20 thread pitch on both ends. Both rods must match this diameter and thread count exactly for the nut to engage properly. A mismatch will prevent the connection from tightening.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous tension the Grade 2 steel provides standard holding power for light to medium duty assemblies. The zinc plating resists surface rust during extended exposure to moisture. The nut is not rated for high strength or critical structural loads.

Questions about this item

What does the 1/2"-20 thread size mean when joining two rods?

It indicates a half-inch diameter with twenty threads per inch, so both rods must share that exact pitch to meet cleanly in the centre.

How does the Grade 2 steel rating affect the joint strength?

Grade 2 is a standard low-carbon steel suitable for general-purpose fastening where high tensile loads are not expected.

What length of thread engagement does the coupling nut provide for each rod?

The nut is tapped from both ends toward the middle, giving each rod full engagement up to the centre meeting point.
