What the MINIX CP86 does

The MINIX CP86 is a wireless CarPlay adapter that converts factory wired CarPlay to wireless in compatible vehicles. It supports iPhone models running iOS 10 or later and cars from 2016 onward with built-in CarPlay. The adapter uses Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5 on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands plus Bluetooth for a cable-free connection up to 10 meters.

When the upgrade makes sense

This adapter replaces a physical Lightning cable for drivers who want to keep their phone in a pocket or bag while using CarPlay. The jump is worth it if your vehicle already has factory wired CarPlay and you want automatic reconnection after startup. It does not add CarPlay to cars without it, nor does it support Android Auto.

Installation and common issues

Plug the CP86 into the vehicle USB port using the included right-angle USB-A or USB-C adapter; no software setup is required. The unit auto-reconnects to paired iPhones after the car starts. If audio is missing, open the built-in interface and change the Audio Streaming Mode setting. Note that most phones cannot run CarPlay and a mobile hotspot at the same time due to single-WiFi hardware limits.
