Eight-outlet surge protector with USB charging

The Minuteman MMS-STP8U3 provides eight grounded AC outlets, three of which are transformer-spaced, alongside two USB-A ports and one USB-C port. The USB ports share a combined 5V 30W output for charging phones, tablets and laptops. It is built for desktop workstations, home entertainment gear and networking hardware that need both surge protection and convenient device charging.

Sustained-load behaviour

The unit carries a 2160 joule AC suppression rating and a maximum spike amperage of 144,000A, with clamping voltages of 400V, 500V and 500V across line-neutral, line-ground and neutral-ground modes. An EMI/RFI filter attenuates noise up to 40dB from 150KHz to 100MHz. Continuous draw is limited to 15A or 1800W at 120V, so total connected equipment must stay within that envelope.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that your wall receptacle supplies 120V and can deliver 15A on the branch circuit. Ensure the 6 ft cord reaches the outlet without strain and that the 11.22-inch strip fits the intended mounting surface. Confirm the combined USB load will not exceed 30W if you plan to charge multiple devices simultaneously.

Questions about this item

Does the EMI/RFI filter rated up to 40 dB attenuation keep line noise low when the strip powers a full desktop setup all day?

The filter covers 150 KHz to 100 MHz with up to 40 dB attenuation, reducing high-frequency noise during continuous operation.

What wall outlet and circuit capacity must already be in place for the 15 A, 1800 W rating to be usable?

A standard 120 V, 15 A branch circuit with a NEMA 5-15R receptacle is required to deliver the rated 1800 W.

Will the 400 V, 500 V, 500 V clamping voltages protect older AV gear and VoIP hardware connected to the eight grounded outlets?

Yes, the three protection modes (L-N, L-G, N-G) clamp surges at those voltages across all eight outlets, shielding legacy equipment.
