UltraHighSpeed 5Gbps Ethernet Adapter

The Monoprice 146981 adds a wired 5Gbps Ethernet connection to any USB-C equipped computer. It targets users who need faster, more stable networking for streaming, gaming, video calls or large file transfers. The adapter works immediately on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Android without installing drivers. It draws all required power directly from the host USB-C port.

Passive cooling with zero fan noise

The compact aluminium housing dissipates heat passively during normal operation, so the adapter runs completely silently. Power consumption is limited to what the USB-C port supplies, eliminating the need for an external power brick or additional cables. The short 101.6 mm tether keeps the RJ45 jack close to the device, reducing strain on the port and maintaining a tidy workspace.

Driver-free setup across major operating systems

Plug-and-play support on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Android means no software installation or configuration is required. The bundle includes only the adapter itself; there are no extra cables, CD-ROMs or proprietary utilities to manage. This minimalist approach suits travellers and remote workers who want a reliable wired connection without carrying additional accessories.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Monoprice 146981 USB-C to 5Gbps Ethernet Adapter, and what step do people often miss?

Plug the USB-C male connector into your device's USB-C port; no drivers are required for Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, or Android. The step users miss is verifying the port supports data transfer, as some USB-C ports only handle charging.

What maintenance or replacement will the Monoprice 146981 adapter need over time?

The adapter has no moving parts or user-serviceable components. Maintenance is limited to keeping the USB-C and RJ45 ports free of dust and debris. Replace the unit only if the cable or connectors suffer physical damage.

What limit appears first during sustained high-speed use of the Monoprice 146981 adapter?

The 5000 Mbps Ethernet transfer rate ceiling is the first hard limit. Sustained throughput cannot exceed this specification, and actual speeds depend on your network infrastructure and host device capabilities.
