Compact 8K Adapter for Creators and Professionals

The Monoprice 148228 adapter converts a USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode into an HDMI 2.1 output supporting up to 7680x4320 resolution at 60 Hz. It delivers 32.4 Gbps bandwidth with HDCP 2.3 compliance for protected content playback. The ultracompact housing measures 1.7 x 0.9 x 0.4 inches, making it suitable for mobile workstations and minimal desk setups.

Sustained High-Resolution Signal Stability

The adapter maintains the full 32.4 Gbps link required for 8K60 video without compression during extended sessions. HDCP 2.3 handshake remains consistent for streaming protected media over long periods. Support for 8, 10, and 12-bit colour depths alongside RGB and YCbCr pixel formats preserves image fidelity without dropped frames or colour shifts under continuous load.

Simple Plug-and-Play Installation

Connect the USB-C end to a host device that explicitly supports DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode, then attach an HDMI cable to the adapter and display. No drivers or external power are required for operation. The adapter will not function on USB-C ports limited to data or charging only, and it cannot add Alt Mode capability to hosts lacking the necessary graphics output.

Questions about this item

Does the adapter get warm or draw noticeable power when driving an 8K60 display all day?

The adapter is a passive 1.7" × 0.9" × 0.4" dongle with no active cooling; it draws only the bus power required for 32.4 Gbps HDMI 2.1 signalling and stays cool in normal use.

What must my laptop or tablet already provide for this adapter to output 8K at 60 Hz?

The host needs a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode; without that the adapter cannot deliver 7680 × 4320 at 60 Hz.

Will this adapter work with an older 4K monitor that only has HDMI 2.0 inputs?

Yes — HDMI 2.1 is backward compatible, so the adapter will negotiate 4K at 60 Hz with HDCP 2.3 on legacy displays.
