Compact 8-in-1 dock for laptop expansion

The Monoprice 144834 adds dual 4K HDMI outputs, two 10 Gbps USB-A ports, a USB-C port with 100 W passthrough charging, Gigabit Ethernet and SD or microSD card readers through a single USB-C connection. It weighs .32 kg and requires no driver installation on Windows or MacOS.

Dual 4K HDMI support with MacOS mirror limitation

The dock drives two external monitors at 4K resolution from one USB-C host port. On MacOS the external displays can only mirror each other or the built-in screen, so users who need independent extended desktops on Apple hardware should look elsewhere.

Fanless aluminium enclosure runs silently

With no moving parts the unit produces no audible noise during data transfers or video output. Power draw is limited to the host laptop's supply and the 100 W passthrough rating, so thermal output stays low in typical office workloads.

Questions about this item

How does dual 4K HDMI output actually behave when I plug this dock into my laptop?

You can connect two external monitors at up to 4K resolution each. On Windows both screens can show different content; on macOS they mirror the same image.

What does the 10 Gbps USB rating mean for everyday file transfers?

The two USB-A ports and one USB-C port each run at 10 Gbps, so large files move roughly twice as fast as on common 5 Gbps docks.

Will this fit on a crowded desk and stay powered without a separate brick?

It weighs 0.32 kg and draws up to 100 W of passthrough power through its single USB-C host cable, so no extra power supply is needed.
