What It Is
The Socket Mobile SocketScan S720 is a wireless Bluetooth barcode scanner that reads 1D and 2D codes from paper and screens. It ships with a black charging dock and weighs 4.13 units. The unit measures 6.30 by 4.90 units and is designed for general-purpose data capture in ticketing, inventory, and hospitality workflows.
Who It Suits
Teams needing a cordless handheld reader for linear barcodes, QR codes, PDF417, and Data Matrix symbols will find it practical. It supports mobility across retail floors, warehouses, and delivery routes. Buyers who require a fixed-mount presentation scanner or an industrial ruggedized housing for harsh environments should evaluate other form factors.
Deciding Spec
The scanner achieves a 14.96 scan distance for 1D and 2D symbols, which determines whether the working range fits your counter or aisle workflow. This single figure tells you if operators can capture codes at the required reach without stepping closer or mounting the device differently.

Questions about this item
How far away can the S720 read a barcode before the distance becomes the limiting factor?
The S720 reads barcodes at up to 14.96 units of scan distance, so anything beyond that range will not register.
Does the S720 get hot or noisy during continuous all-day scanning?
The S720 has no fan and uses low-power Bluetooth scanning, so it stays silent and cool even with constant use.
What device must I already have to pair with the S720 for it to work?
You need a Bluetooth-enabled host such as a smartphone, tablet or computer running a compatible scanning application.
