Handheld 1D laser scanner reads barcodes from contact to 17 inches and connects via USB, RS232, Keyboard Wedge or IBM 468x/9x interfaces
The Motorola LS2208 is a new handheld barcode scanner built for retail, healthcare, education and government environments. It reads 1D symbols using a 650 nm visible laser diode at 100 scans per second. The unit weighs .40 lb and measures 6.00" x 2.50" x 3.34". It survives repeated 5 ft drops to concrete.
This model ships with a 7' straight USB cable for immediate plug-and-play connection. On-board interfaces also include RS232, Keyboard Wedge and IBM 468x/9x for integration with a variety of host systems. The scanner operates at 5 volts with 130 mA typical and 175 mA maximum current draw. A presentation stand is sold separately.
This scanner suits users who need reliable capture of UPC/EAN, Code 39, Code 128 and other 1D symbologies from contact to 17 in. It is not for buyers who need 2D imaging, wireless mobility or a scanner rated for higher drop heights. Builders requiring a built-in stand should look at a different configuration.

| Drop | Unit functions normally after repeated 5 ft / 1.5 m drops to concrete |
| Ruggedness | General Purpose |
The laser diode is built for continuous use and has no user-serviceable replacement interval; the scanner is rated to survive repeated 1.5 m drops to concrete.
The engine reads at 100 scans per second and requires a minimum 20% print contrast ratio, so damaged or low-contrast labels become the bottleneck.
It draws a typical 130 mA at 5 V (under 1 W) with no moving parts, so heat and audible noise remain negligible during extended use.
