A DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem with a 2.5Gb Ethernet port, 32x8 channel bonding and backward compatibility to DOCSIS 3.0
The Motorola MB8611 is a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem built for households that subscribe to multi-gigabit internet tiers. It delivers the only standard capable of exceeding 1 Gbps downstream and works with Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum and Cox. The 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port removes the bottleneck found on older 1 GbE modems.
Connect the coaxial cable, link the 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port to your router or PC, then activate the MAC address with your provider. No driver installation is required. The most frequent problem is forgetting to register the modem with the ISP, which leaves the link stuck in a provisioning loop. A power cycle after registration usually clears it.
The 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port is the deciding factor. If your router or firewall only has 1 GbE ports you will not see speeds above 1 Gbps regardless of the modem capability. Buyers whose gear tops out at 1 GbE should note that the extra headroom cannot be used without a 2.5 GbE uplink.

Connect a device to the 2.5GbE port and run a speed test; the modem supports DOCSIS 3.1 tiers above 1 Gbps approved by Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum, and Cox.
The box contains the cable modem; you must supply a coaxial cable for the wall outlet and a router or device with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port to use the full throughput.
The MB8611 is a single 32x8 DOCSIS 3.1 variant with a 2.5GbE port; it covers all current multi-gig tiers and remains backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0 networks.
