A yellow polyethylene climbing hard hat with a four-point ratchet suspension, ANSI Type 1 Class E rated and tested for high and low temperatures
The MSA Safety V-Gard H1 is a Type 1 Class E climbing hard hat built with a polyethylene shell in high-visibility yellow. Its four-point ratchet suspension adjusts to fit head sizes from 6-1/2 to 8 without tools. Side slots accept compatible accessories such as hearing protection or face shields. The hat meets low and high temperature performance requirements.
At 1.15 lb the polyethylene shell keeps neck strain low during long shifts. No ventilation openings means the shell remains sealed against falling debris and splash hazards. The ratchet mechanism tightens evenly around the crown so the hat stays centered when the wearer looks up or bends down. Reverse donning is not supported on this model.
Side slots let workers clip on MSA-approved visors, earmuffs or headlamp brackets without drilling the shell. No graphics are printed on the yellow surface so high-visibility compliance is maintained after accessories are added. The four-point suspension distributes impact energy through the ratchet straps rather than a single crown strap. Buyers needing a vented shell or reversible wear should select a different model.

Turn the ratchet knob until the hat sits firmly and level on your head; the common error is leaving the suspension too loose, which lets the shell shift during a climb.
Replace the polyethylene shell after any impact or after five years of daily use; swap the 4-point ratchet suspension and sweatband annually or sooner if fraying or cracking appears.
The non-vented polyethylene shell traps heat, so the wearer feels overheating and sweat buildup long before the ratchet mechanism or Class E insulation reach any limit.
