Thin gaming laptop for entry-level play

The MSI GF63 THIN 8SC-030 is a 15.6 inch IPS laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8300H quad-core processor and GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics with 4 GB video memory. It ships with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB NVMe SSD running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. The 0.85 inch profile and 4.1 lb weight suit users who need portable 1080p gaming capability.

Connectivity and expansion for a compact chassis

One USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and an HDMI output supporting 4K at 30 Hz handle peripherals and external displays. Gigabit LAN and WLAN provide wired and wireless networking. The thin aluminum hair-brushed chassis includes X-shaped ventilation to manage thermals within the slim form factor.

Suited for casual gamers and mobile students

This configuration fits buyers who want a light 15.6 inch device for mainstream titles at 1080p and everyday productivity on battery. Users needing higher frame rates in demanding games, larger local storage or more memory for content creation should consider laptops with stronger GPUs and greater capacity.

Questions about this item

Does the i5-8300H hit its 4.00 GHz turbo limit during long sessions?

The quad-core Coffee Lake processor can reach 4.00 GHz turbo frequency, but sustained loads will be constrained by the thin 0.85 inch chassis and shared cooling with the GTX 1650 Max-Q.

How loud and hot does the GF63 Thin get when the GTX 1650 Max-Q runs all day?

The aluminium hair-brushed chassis uses X-shaped ventilation to exhaust heat from both CPU and GPU, yet the 4.1 lb frame leaves limited airflow space, so fan noise and surface temperature rise noticeably under continuous load.

What must I already own to use the single HDMI 4K 30Hz output on this laptop?

You need an external display or TV with an HDMI input that accepts 1920 x 1080 or 4K at 30 Hz, plus an HDMI cable; the port is the only video output on the GF63 Thin 8SC-030.
