15.6" QHD 165Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana pairs a 15.6 inch QHD panel running at 165 Hz with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. It ships with 32GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed for immediate use.

QHD 165Hz display limits

The 2560 x 1440 IPS screen covers 100 percent DCI-P3 colour volume, so content creators see accurate hues. A 165 Hz refresh rate reduces motion blur in fast scenes, though the panel is not a touchscreen. HDMI output allows an external monitor, but the laptop's own panel remains the primary high-refresh surface.

Build, keyboard and ports

The black chassis measures 14.13 x 10.31 x .99 inches and weighs 4.29 lbs, balancing portability with cooling capacity. A 4-zone RGB keyboard includes anti-ghosting for simultaneous key presses. Connectivity covers three USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, a combo audio jack, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. A 55.2Wh battery powers the system.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz configuration or the 64 GB option mentioned in the details?

This unit ships with 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz; the 64 GB figure refers to the maximum supported capacity, not the installed amount.

What does the 165 Hz 2560 x 1440 panel deliver in actual gameplay?

The 165 Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution give smooth motion and sharp detail in fast titles, while the IPS panel covers 100 % DCI-P3 for accurate colour.

How does the HDMI port and Wi-Fi 6E connection limit external display or network speed?

The single HDMI output drives one external monitor, and Wi-Fi 6E provides high-throughput wireless networking up to the 6 GHz band.
