MSI Katana 15 QHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop

The MSI Katana 15 is a 15.6 inch gaming laptop with a QHD display running at 165Hz. It uses an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor with 16 cores and 24 threads reaching 5.2 GHz. Graphics come from an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 with 8GB GDDR7 memory. The system includes 16GB DDR5 4800 memory and a 1TB PCIe SSD. It ships with Windows 11 Home and a 2024 Office license.

Who This Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

This laptop suits players who want high frame rates at 2560 x 1440 resolution on a 15.6 inch screen. The 165Hz panel and RTX 5070 combination fits competitive shooters and fast-paced titles. Content creators needing more than 16GB memory or a larger colour gamut should consider other models. Buyers wanting a touchscreen or an SD card reader will need a different device.

RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Decides Fit

The single specification that decides fit is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 with 8GB GDDR7 video memory. This GPU tier targets 1440p gaming at high refresh rates in modern titles. If your workload needs more VRAM for 4K textures or professional GPU compute, this is not the right part. For 165Hz QHD gaming the graphics configuration matches the display capability.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The laptop ships with a 15.6 inch QHD 165Hz display, Intel Core i7-14650HX processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 graphics, 16GB DDR5 4800 memory, 1TB PCIe SSD, RGB backlit keyboard, Windows 11 Home and an Office 2024 licence. No external peripherals or additional storage are included.

Which version of the Katana 15 should I choose for 1440p gaming?

This configuration pairs the 16 core 24 thread i7-14650HX with the RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 and a 15.6 inch 2560 x 1440 165Hz panel, so it is built for high refresh rate QHD gaming without needing a different SKU.

What does the 165Hz figure mean once the laptop is running games?

The 15.6 inch QHD panel can refresh up to 165 times per second, letting the RTX 5070 push high frame rates at 2560 x 1440 for smoother motion in fast titles.
