16-core i7-14650HX with RTX 5050

The MSI Katana 15 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor with 16 cores and 24 threads. It pairs that CPU with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU featuring 8GB GDDR7 video memory. The system includes 16GB DDR5 4800 memory and a 2TB PCIe SSD running Windows 11 Home.

144Hz FHD display for competitive play

The 15.6-inch panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution at 144Hz, suited to fast-paced shooters and esports titles where high refresh rate matters. Buyers who need a higher-resolution screen, a touchscreen, or a larger chassis for additional cooling should look at other models.

RTX 5050 8GB GDDR7 decides fit

The discrete RTX 5050 with 8GB GDDR7 is the single spec that determines whether this laptop meets your graphics workload. If your games or creative apps require more video memory or a higher GPU tier, this configuration will not be sufficient.

Questions about this item

What are the exact dimensions of the 15.6 inch chassis so I can confirm it fits my bag?

The laptop measures 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inches and weighs 5.29 pounds, so check your compartment against those figures.

How do I install extra DDR5 4800 memory and what step is often missed?

Remove the base screws, lift the panel, seat the SO-DIMM at 45 degrees then press down until the clips click; the step many miss is re-seating the battery connector before closing the case.

When will the 2 TB PCIe SSD likely need replacement under heavy gaming writes?

Consumer PCIe SSDs in this class typically reach their write-endurance rating after several years of daily multi-hundred-gigabyte installs; plan a fresh drive around the three-to-four-year mark.
