Ready-to-game laptop

The MSI Katana 15 ships with Windows 11 Home and an Office 2024 license installed. An Intel Core i9-14900HX with 24 cores and 32 threads reaches 5.8 GHz turbo. The GeForce RTX 5070 brings 12GB GDDR7 memory. A 15.6 inch 165Hz QHD+ panel runs at 2560 x 1600. 64GB DDR5 and a 4TB PCIe SSD complete the package.

Check your workflow needs

The 15.6 inch form factor measures 14.13 x 10.2 x 0.98 inches and weighs 4.96 pounds. Verify that your bag and desk space accommodate those dimensions. The anti-glare IPS screen covers 45% NTSC; colour-critical work may want wider gamut. No SD card reader is fitted, so external media needs a dongle. The 720p webcam and 4-zone RGB keyboard are fixed specifications.

Ports and expansion

One HDMI 2.1 output drives an external display. Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C handle peripherals. Gigabit Ethernet, separate mic and headphone jacks, and a Kensington lock slot round out the I/O. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 provide wireless connectivity. The 4TB SSD and 64GB RAM leave no internal slots for further upgrades.

Questions about this item

Does the HDMI 2.1 port support 4K external monitors at high refresh rates?

The HDMI 2.1 port can drive a 4K panel at up to 165 Hz or a QHD panel at 165 Hz, matching the built-in display's maximum refresh rate.

Is the 64 GB of memory upgradeable and what type does it use?

The laptop uses DDR5 memory; with 64 GB already installed, typical configurations leave no free slots for expansion.

What is the colour gamut of the built-in display and is it suitable for colour-critical work?
