16-core Ryzen 9 8940HX laptop

The MSI Vector A16 pairs a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU that carries 12GB of GDDR7 video memory. A 16.0-inch IPS panel delivers a 2560 x 1600 QHD+ resolution at a 240 Hz refresh rate and 400 nits brightness. The system ships with 32GB of DDR5 5600 MHz memory and a 2TB PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe M.2 SSD running Windows 11 Pro.

Sustained load on 90Wh battery and 330W adapter

Under continuous load the 16-core CPU can reach 5.3 GHz while the 90Wh battery and 330-watt AC adapter feed the platform. The Cooler Boost 5 thermal design manages heat from the 64 MB L3 cache and the RTX 5070 Ti during extended sessions. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 maintain stable wireless throughput when the system is pushed for long periods.

Two Thunderbolt 5 ports and user-serviceable slots

Installation of extra storage uses the second M.2 slot accessible after removing the base screws; the two USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 5 at 40 Gbps for external drives. The 24-zone RGB keyboard with 99 anti-ghost keys and a 1080p IR webcam with privacy shutter are integrated. Common issues include tight screw tolerances on the bottom cover and the need to reinstall drivers after a BIOS update.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Ryzen 9 8940HX get during all-day workloads with the 330-watt adapter connected?

The 16-core Ryzen 9 8940HX draws up to 330 watts through the supplied adapter, so sustained loads will push the cooling system hard; expect audible fan noise and warm keyboard surfaces during extended sessions.

Which peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 5 ports at their 40 Gbps rating?

You need Thunderbolt 5-certified cables and devices — docks, drives or eGPUs — that support the 40 Gbps USB4 link; legacy Thunderbolt 3 or 4 gear will fall back to lower speeds.

Can I keep my existing DDR5 5600 memory kit if I want to expand beyond the soldered 32 GB?

The laptop ships with 32 GB of DDR5 5600 and supports up to 64 GB total; any added module must match the 5600 MT/s spec to run at rated speed.
