4-inch PVC DWV Coupling
This white Schedule 40 PVC coupling connects two 4-inch hub pipes in drain, waste and vent systems. It meets ASTM D1784 cell class 12454 for material quality. The fitting is not rated for pressure applications and handles temperatures up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Plumbers and DIY installers use it for gravity-flow drainage upgrades.
Replaces damaged or misaligned hub joints
Swap out a cracked coupling or correct a slope error without changing the pipe run. The hub-to-hub design slides over existing 4-inch PVC pipe for a solvent-weld repair. The upgrade is worth it when the old joint leaks, separates or fails inspection. It does not serve pressurised supply lines or hot-water distribution.
Verify pipe size and local code acceptance
Confirm the existing pipe measures 4-inch nominal diameter and uses hub connections. Check that Schedule 40 PVC DWV fittings are approved for the project by the authority having jurisdiction. Ensure solvent cement and primer compatible with PVC are available for installation. The coupling is unsuitable for threaded, compression or press-fit systems.

Questions about this item
What pipe size does the 4" hub coupling fit?
The hub accepts 4 in PVC pipe with a Schedule 40 wall thickness.
How is the hub connection made and what step is often missed?
Apply PVC primer and cement to both the pipe end and the hub socket, then push fully home and hold briefly; the step often missed is using primer before the cement.
What temperature limit should I watch for if the line carries hot discharge?
The PVC material is rated to a maximum of 140 Degrees F, so avoid continuous flow hotter than that.
