Repurposing the CD slot

This magnetic holder turns an unused CD player into a convenient phone mounting point. It fits most vehicle CD slots and secures by expanding a bracket with a simple twist dial. The kit includes two metal adapters for phones or cases that lack built-in magnetic plates. Installation requires no tools or adhesive and takes only seconds.

Limits of the CD-slot interface

The mount depends entirely on a functional CD player slot with enough depth to accept the 5/8" insertion. Vehicles without a slot, with a slot-loading mechanism that rejects the bracket, or with an angled fascia that prevents a secure grip cannot use this holder. The magnetic grip also requires a flat surface on the phone or case for the supplied adhesive adapters.

Magnetic attachment method

The holder uses a magnetic connection instead of mechanical clamps, so the phone snaps on and releases with one hand. The head rotates a full 360 degrees for portrait or landscape viewing. Note that this system is not compatible with MagSafe, so phones relying solely on that standard will not hold without an adapter.
