Zoom range and format

This Nikon 1 NIKKOR 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR lens is a CX-format power drive zoom offering a 10x magnification range. Its picture angle is equivalent to 27-270mm in 35mm format, covering wide perspectives through to telephoto compression. The lens is designed specifically for movie recording and photo capture on Nikon 1 series cameras. It ships new with front and rear caps, a bayonet hood and the manufacturer warranty.

Suitability and limits

The power zoom mechanism and three adjustable zoom speeds suit videographers who need smooth, silent focal-length changes during recording. The voice coil AF motor keeps focus transitions quiet for soundtrack integrity. Photographers who prefer manual zoom rings, need wider maximum apertures than f/4.5-5.6, or require a lens for larger sensor formats should look at other options.

Installation notes

Mount the lens on any compatible Nikon 1 camera body using the standard bayonet; the compact, lightweight build adds minimal bulk. The Vibration Reduction VR II system activates automatically to reduce blur from camera shake. The main setup pitfall is forgetting to select the desired zoom speed before recording, which can cause abrupt transitions if the default setting does not match the scene.

Questions about this item

Which Nikon camera mount does this 10-100mm lens require?

This lens uses the Nikon 1 CX mount, so it fits Nikon 1 series mirrorless cameras such as the V1, V2, V3, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, S1, S2 or AW1.

Can I use this power-zoom lens on my older Nikon DSLR with an adapter?

No, the CX mount has a shorter flange distance than Nikon F-mount DSLRs, so no adapter allows infinity focus; it is designed only for Nikon 1 mirrorless bodies.

How do I confirm the three-speed power zoom and VR II are active after attaching the lens?

Set the zoom switch to power, press the zoom lever and feel three distinct speed steps; half-press the shutter to hear the voice-coil motor focus silently and watch the viewfinder stabilise when VR II engages.
