Wide-angle prime for FX and DX

The Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D is a compact wide-angle prime designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs. On DX-format bodies it provides a 30mm equivalent focal length. The f/2.8 maximum aperture supports low-light shooting and depth-of-field control. This bundle adds a three-piece filter kit, a lens cap keeper and a cleaning kit.

Consistent rendering across the range

Super Integrated Coating on individual elements reduces flare and ghosting to maintain contrast and colour accuracy in bright or backlit conditions. Close Range Correction preserves image quality throughout the entire focusing distance. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth background blur when working at wider apertures.

Upgrade from kit zooms at 20mm

Photographers moving beyond variable-aperture kit lenses gain a constant f/2.8 aperture and prime optical correction for landscape, interior and travel work. The D-type design requires a camera body with a built-in focus motor for autofocus operation. Buyers needing autofocus on entry-level bodies without a motor or seeking zoom flexibility should consider alternatives.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 20mm f/2.8D lens draw during all-day shooting?

The lens is purely mechanical and optical; it draws no electrical power, so heat and noise are not produced by the lens itself.

Which camera body must I already own for the 20mm f/2.8D to autofocus?

Autofocus requires a Nikon DSLR body with a built-in focus motor — D-type lenses such as this 20mm f/2.8D do not autofocus on entry-level bodies lacking that motor.

Will the 20mm f/2.8D vignette on my FX-format Nikon DSLR?

On FX-format bodies the 20mm f/2.8D covers the full frame without vignetting; on DX bodies it provides a 30mm equivalent field of view.
