Versatile DX Zoom Lens

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR covers a 24-127.5mm equivalent range on DX-format DSLRs. Its optical design uses three aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements with Super Integrated Coating. Vibration Reduction provides image stabilization for handheld shooting. The bundle adds a 3-piece filter kit, lens cap keeper, and cleaning kit.

Wide-to-Telephoto Everyday Shooter

Photographers wanting a single lens for wide-angle through short-telephoto on a DX body will find this focal range practical. The variable f/3.5-5.6 aperture limits low-light depth-of-field control and shutter speeds. Buyers needing a constant wide aperture or full-frame coverage should consider other options.

Steady Handheld Performance

Vibration Reduction helps maintain sharpness during sustained handheld use at longer focal lengths. The optical construction controls aberrations across the zoom range for consistent image quality. The included hood reduces flare during extended outdoor sessions. The filter kit protects the front element during prolonged field work.

Questions about this item

Do I need a DX-format F-mount DSLR body to use this 16-85mm lens?

Yes, the lens is designed for Nikon DX-format DSLRs with an F-mount and provides a 24-127.5mm equivalent focal length on those cameras.

Can I keep my HB-39 hood when upgrading from an 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR?

The HB-39 bayonet hood is shared between the 16-85mm and the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR, so your existing hood fits this lens.

How do I verify the vibration reduction is active after mounting the lens?

Turn the VR switch on the lens barrel to ON; you should hear the mechanism engage and see a steadier image in the viewfinder when half-pressing the shutter.
