FX-format prime for DSLR owners

The Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is a compact prime lens built for FX and DX-format DSLRs. It uses a Silent Wave Motor for autofocus and includes an M/A focus mode switch for quick manual override. The optical design adds an aspherical element to maintain edge-to-edge sharpness across the frame. A 58mm filter thread and a supplied bayonet hood complete the kit.

Upgrade from slower kit zooms

Photographers moving from variable-aperture zooms gain a constant f/1.8 maximum aperture for shallower depth of field and brighter viewfinder images. The 47-degree picture angle on 35mm format suits general-purpose and portrait work, while the 0.15X reproduction ratio covers close-up detail at a 1.48 ft minimum focus distance. Buyers needing zoom flexibility or macro magnification beyond 0.15X should look elsewhere.
