Compact prime for DSLR systems

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is a lightweight prime lens built for FX-format F-mount cameras. It also works on DX bodies where it delivers a 75mm equivalent field of view. Photographers who want a bright, portable optic for everyday shooting will find it well suited to portraits and low-light scenes.

Silent Wave Motor and flare control

The Silent Wave Motor provides swift, noiseless autofocus with full-time manual override for precise adjustments. Super Integrated Coating on the lens elements suppresses flare and ghosting, preserving contrast and colour accuracy when shooting against bright light sources. The seven-blade rounded diaphragm produces smooth background blur at wide apertures.

Aspherical element and aperture range

One aspherical element reduces spherical aberration to enhance sharpness across the frame. The aperture range runs from f/1.8 to f/16, giving control over depth of field and exposure in varied conditions. No additional accessories or software are bundled with this international version.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G on my Nikon F-mount body, and what step do people often miss?

Align the lens mount index with the camera body index, twist until it clicks, then set the camera menu to allow shooting without a lens if the aperture ring is not used.

What maintenance will the Silent Wave Motor and 7-blade diaphragm need over time?

The Silent Wave Motor is sealed and requires no lubrication; keep the diaphragm blades oil-free by avoiding solvent cleaners on the aperture mechanism.

At what point does the f/1.8 aperture limit low-light handheld shooting?

The f/1.8 maximum aperture is the brightest setting; once the scene demands a wider aperture, you must raise ISO or add light because the lens cannot open further.
