Ideal entry DSLR kit

The Nikon D3500 pairs a 24.2MP DX CMOS sensor with an 18-55mm lens and EXPEED image processor. It shoots 5 fps continuous stills and records 1080 60fps video with a built-in monaural microphone. Bluetooth links to the SnapBridge app for easy transfer.

Suits beginners learning manual control

Guide mode teaches exposure basics while the 11-point autofocus keeps subjects sharp. The 3.0" 921K-dot display aids composition and review. Buyers needing faster burst rates, 4K video, weather sealing or dual card slots should consider other models.

Handles daily shooting and travel

The 24.2MP resolution yields detailed prints and generous cropping headroom. ISO 1600-25600 covers low light, while vibration reduction steadies the kit lens. Buffer depth limits extended bursts, and the single card slot offers no backup redundancy.

Questions about this item

Do I need a separate memory card to store photos and videos?

Yes, the camera has no internal storage so an SD, SDHC or SDXC card must be inserted before shooting.

Will my older AF-D lenses autofocus on the D3500?

No, the body lacks an internal focus motor so AF-D lenses operate in manual focus only.

How can I confirm the 11-point autofocus is locking on my subject?

The active focus point lights red in the viewfinder and a beep sounds when focus is achieved.
