800mm f/5.6 Super-Telephoto Lens

This Nikon F-mount lens covers the FX image circle and reaches 800mm focal length. Two fluorite and two ED elements reduce chromatic aberration across the frame. Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings suppress flare and ghosting in strong light. The electromagnetic diaphragm delivers consistent exposure control during high-speed bursts.

Who This Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

Wildlife and sports photographers needing extreme reach with vibration reduction up to 4.5 stops will benefit. The Silent Wave Motor provides fast, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override. Buyers requiring a wider maximum aperture or a shorter minimum focus distance should consider other options.

Focal Length and Mount Compatibility

The 800mm focal length on F-mount determines whether this lens fits the intended camera system and subject distance. Confirm the camera accepts F-mount optics and that the angle of view matches the shooting requirements. The aperture range runs from f/5.6 to f/32.

Questions about this item

How quiet is the Silent Wave Motor during continuous autofocus when the 800mm lens runs all day?

The Silent Wave Motor delivers fast, near-silent autofocus with full-time manual override, keeping operation quiet even during extended shooting sessions.

Which camera bodies support the electromagnetic diaphragm on this f/5.6 super-telephoto?

The electromagnetic aperture requires a compatible Nikon F-mount body that can control aperture electronically; older bodies without that support cannot adjust the iris.

Does the Vibration Reduction’s Sport mode work with a 4.5-stop rating on a monopod or tripod?

VR provides up to 4.5 stops of shake compensation and includes dedicated Sport and Tripod modes tuned for monopod and tripod use respectively.
