Compact DSLR with 24.2 MP DX sensor, 3.2" vari-angle touchscreen, 39-point AF and 18-55mm VR II lens, shooting 1080/60p video
The Nikon D5500 1546 pairs a 24.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor with an EXPEED 4 processor in a lightweight body. A 3.2-inch 1037K vari-angle touchscreen simplifies composition from high or low angles. Built-in Wi-Fi enables direct image transfer to smart devices for immediate sharing. The kit includes the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens.
The 24.2 MP sensor captures 6000 x 4000 pixel images without an optical low-pass filter for maximum detail. ISO 100-25600 covers bright daylight through dim interiors. Video records at 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60, 50, 30, 25 and 24 fps, plus 1280 x 720 at 60 and 50 fps. The 39-point Multi-CAM 4800DX autofocus system tracks subjects across the frame. Continuous shooting and buffer depth limit extended bursts for fast action sequences.
The Nikon F bayonet mount accepts a wide range of AF-S and AF-I lenses for full autofocus compatibility. Non-CPU lenses operate in manual exposure modes with limited metering support. The included 18-55mm VR II lens covers wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives with vibration reduction for handheld stability. Photographers requiring longer reach, wider apertures or specialist macro capabilities will need additional lenses.
