Nikon 50mm f/1.8G FX Prime Lens

This Nikon FX-format prime lens has a fixed 50mm focal length and a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture. It includes Silent Wave Motor technology for smooth and quiet autofocus. The lens is optimised for FX-format D-SLR cameras and also works on DX-format bodies. It comes with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty.

Suited for low-light and portrait photographers

Shooters who need a wide aperture for shallow depth of field and low-light capability will find this lens useful. The M/A focus mode switch allows quick manual-focus override. Buyers who need zoom versatility or a different focal length should look at other options.

Fixed 50mm focal length decides fit

The single specification that determines whether this is the right part is the fixed 50mm focal length. If your work requires that exact field of view on FX or DX cameras, this lens matches. If you need any other focal length, this unit will not suit.

Questions about this item

Which Nikon DSLR mount does the 50mm f/1.8G AF-S lens require on the camera body?

The lens uses the Nikon F mount, so the body must be a Nikon F-mount DSLR such as an FX-format or DX-format model for it to attach and communicate.

Will the Silent Wave Motor autofocus operate on an older Nikon DSLR that lacks an in-body focus motor?

Yes, the built-in Silent Wave Motor drives autofocus inside the lens, so it works on any compatible Nikon F-mount DSLR even if the body has no focus motor of its own.

How can I confirm the aspherical element is delivering the promised optical performance after mounting the lens?

Shoot a flat, well-lit target at f/1.8, inspect centre and edge sharpness, and check that out-of-focus highlights render as smooth, circular bokeh without harsh fringing.
