Versatile zoom covering wide-angle to short telephoto with constant f/4 aperture and close focus down to 1.15 ft
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S covers wide-angle to short-telephoto on full-frame Z cameras, equivalent to 36-180mm on DX bodies. A constant f/4 aperture maintains exposure throughout the range, making it suitable for landscapes, portraits and everyday shooting. Close focusing to 1.15 ft at any focal length adds flexibility for detail work.
Two stepping motors drive autofocus silently and quickly, while internal focusing and zooming keep the lens length constant. The multi-focus system delivers edge-to-edge sharpness with minimal focus breathing, benefiting both stills and video capture.
A programmable ring adjusts aperture, ISO or exposure compensation without leaving the viewfinder, alongside a dedicated manual focus ring for precise override. ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coats suppress ghosting and flare from diagonal and vertical light angles, preserving contrast in backlit scenes. The lens accepts front filters and mounts directly to any Z-series body.

Align the white mounting index on the lens barrel with the white dot on the Z-mount flange, twist clockwise until it clicks, then remove the rear cap; the step many skip is leaving the rear cap on while turning, which prevents the bayonet from seating fully.
Wipe the front and rear elements with a microfibre cloth and lens-cleaning fluid when they gather dust or smudges; keep the zoom and focus rings free of grit by brushing the barrels occasionally, and store the lens with both caps on in a dry place to protect the coatings.
At 120 mm the closest focus distance is 1.15 ft, so you cannot move in closer for tight detail shots; beyond that the constant f/4 aperture means depth of field and light-gathering stay fixed, so the optical close-focus barrier is the first practical constraint you hit.
