Compact 40mm prime lens for Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, offering bright f/2 aperture, quiet stepping-motor autofocus and a custom control ring
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is a lightweight prime lens built for Nikon Z mirrorless cameras. It covers both FX and DX formats, delivering a 60mm equivalent field of view on DX bodies. The bright f/2 aperture suits low-light scenes and shallow depth of field for portraits or street work.
The lens attaches via the native Z bayonet with no adapter required. A stepping motor drives autofocus silently and suppresses focus breathing during video recording. A click-less control ring can be assigned to aperture, ISO or exposure compensation for smooth manual adjustments.
The single 40mm focal length cannot zoom, so framing changes require moving position. On DX sensors the view narrows to a 60mm equivalent, which may feel tight indoors. The f/2 maximum aperture, while bright, does not match the subject isolation of faster primes.

Watch for angle-of-view shifts while focusing; the stepping motor AF system is designed to greatly suppress breathing so the framing stays steady during recording.
The lens ships with front and rear caps; filters, hoods, cases and any adapter for non-Z mounts are sold separately.
On FX bodies it gives a classic 40 mm view; on DX bodies it equates to a 60 mm field of view, so pick based on whether you want a normal-wide or short-tele perspective.
