Prime for Z-mount

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE is a compact prime lens designed for Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras. It suits photographers who want a lightweight walk-around option with a fast aperture for low-light and depth-of-field control. The bundle adds a cleaning kit, pouch, filter set and cap keeper for immediate use.

Upgrade from kit zooms

This lens replaces slower variable-aperture kit zooms when you need consistent f/2 brightness and closer focusing down to 0.28m. The jump is worth it for shooters who prioritise subject separation, sharper edge-to-edge results and a discreet profile for street or travel work.

Limits of the Z-mount standard

The Z-mount diameter supports fast primes like this, but the 40mm focal length fixes the field of view on full-frame bodies. Buyers who want wider angles or telephoto reach need additional lenses. The 52mm filter thread limits filter choices to that specific thread size.

Questions about this item

What is the filter thread size on the Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE?

The lens has a 52mm filter thread that accepts the included 3-piece filter kit and standard screw-in filters.

How do you attach the lens to a Nikon Z-mount camera and what step is often missed?

Align the white mounting index on the lens barrel with the camera mount dot, rotate until it clicks, then remove the rear LF-N1 cap before shooting.

What regular cleaning will the 52mm front element and included filters need?

Use the supplied deluxe cleaning kit to remove dust and fingerprints from the front element and filters; the LC-52B snap-on cap protects the glass when stored.
