  • Ultra-lightweight at 1.8 inches in length and a mere 6 ounces
  • Ideal for varied video content, from vlogging to film-making
  • New high-torque stepping motor ensures swift, near-silent focusing
  • Versatile 40mm focal length bridges 35mm and 50mm on full-frame Z cameras

Retro-styled Z-mount prime

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 SE is a compact full-frame lens with a vintage aesthetic and bright f/2 aperture. It mounts directly to Z series cameras and covers both FX and DX formats. The bundle adds a 52mm filter kit, neoprene pouch, lens pen, care kit and universal cap.

Upgrade from kit zooms or phone cameras

The fixed 40mm focal length bridges the classic 35mm and 50mm perspectives on FX bodies like the Z 6II and Z 5. On DX models such as the Z fc, Z 50 and Z 30 it delivers a 60mm field of view. The f/2 aperture and 0.96 ft close focus enable low-light shooting and detailed close-ups that variable-aperture zooms cannot match.

Suits street, vlog and travel creators wanting one

Photographers who need telephoto reach, macro magnification beyond 0.96 ft or weather-sealed construction should look elsewhere. Videographers requiring powered zoom or cinema gears will not find them here. Builders needing multiple focal lengths in a single lens are not served by this prime.

Questions about this item

What filter thread size does the 40mm f/2 SE lens accept?

The lens takes 52mm filters, and the included kit supplies a UV filter in that exact size.

How do I mount this lens on my Z-series body and what step is often missed?

Align the white mounting index on the lens barrel with the dot on the camera, twist until it clicks, then remove the rear cap before shooting.

When should I replace the UV filter in the kit?

Swap it out if the glass gets scratched, the coating peels, or it no longer threads cleanly onto the 52mm front threads.
